Meet Our Guides

The recent explosion in whitewater boating and float fishing has led many anglers to purchase rafts, catarafts, pontoon boats or drift boats without necessarily learning the skills of rowing in moving water and river safety.

Greg Felt, co-owner of ArkAnglers, has been teaching rowing instruction for rafting and drift boat guiding since 1985. He and our crew of Class IV-V qualified float fishing guides bring a unique fishing perspective to the challenge of learning to row. Starting on the oars in gentle, moving water, we progress to reading and scouting rapids, defensive boating, using eddies, ferrying techniques, and river safety.

Our goal is to make anglers into safe river runners - people who know their abilities, know their limits, and who have the proper foundation so they can continue to improve their skills on their own.

1 Person: $395, 2 People: $425.

Five-day Intensive School
The goals of this introductory course are to impart a thorough understanding of river dynamics, reading water, and defensive boating. The course is supervised by Greg Felt with additional instruction provided by senior ArkAnglers guides, most of whom assisted Greg with his Canyon Marine River Guide School from 1992-2003.

The School is held in Salida, usually in early spring. The class meets each morning at the Arkansas River Fly Shop at 8:00 am and will return around 6:00 pm. Participants will want to come prepared with additional clothing for the full range of spring weather conditions. A dry bag for extra clothing and cooler for lunches will be provided. There will be an instructor and boat for every two students. Fishing from the boat by the student who is not rowing will be encouraged after the initial day of instruction.
2012 Dates: April 11-15
Cost: $950 per person

For more information on the course, suggested equipment list, and accommodations options, please call Greg Felt at 719-539-4223 or email to greg@arkanglers.com.
